Self orchestration is when you control the Agents by hand. I like to do this when I want to keep utmost control of the Agents and study their behaviour, allowing me over weeks to calibrate the AI’s guiding principles (CLAUDE.md) for a certain task.
I like to open 3+ Claude screen, I will have one Agent writing code and two other Agents running code reviews. Each Agent will have access to sub-Agents and what I call “the council”.
Karen (harsh code reviewer)
Edd (finds edge cases where code can break)
Mentor (Long term thinker – added after I saw short-termism “amougst the previous 3 agents”just get the code to pass” mentality)
Compliance agent which I invoke for “night runs” (autonomous runs while I sleep)
I have the follow guards in case sub-Agents go rogue (written in my CLAUDE.md)
sub-Agents are not allowed to WRITE
nor web search (situation arises where you get 10 agents all going to the same website downloading PDFs)
Main Agent must kill any Agents that attempt to write immediately
Full autonomous
Fully autonomous runs can happen once you:
have iteratively created the perfect CLAUDE.md file (principles document) via self orchestration and monitoring of the Agent
have curated and calibrated the sub-Agent team
ensure environment contained and all files are backed up
have provided the agents with adequate reference materials
Personally, I only used fully Autonomous runs for code migrations where the Agents have access to the old code project so cant really go way off task
